Participate With RLJ

Restored Life Journeys (RLJ) depends on the generous donation of volunteer time to fulfill its mission. No experience is required to become a RLJ volunteer, only a caring heart and the willingness to be present and listen.

Two types of volunteers:
  • Victims of crime and others who have been affected by crime (i.e. family members). A primary goal of the programs is to provide healing to victims of crime. Victim impact stories are a vital part of the curriculum. Victim volunteers are invited to share their stories of victory as a facilitator of an entire 14-week project, or may or attend as “special volunteers” who visit one time (for one session) and tell their story.
  • Lay Facilitators are not victims of crime but are interested in volunteering for other reasons. Lay facilitators do commit to be at each session (once/week) for the entire 14-week project and are essential to our effort.
Training for volunteers:
All volunteers are provided with curriculum training. The half-day orientation session: (a) provides an overview of the program, (b) discusses group dynamics, (c) explores self-awareness, sensitivities, and offender perspectives, and (d) provides helpful hints and an opportunity for specific questions to be answered.

*Additional Security/Safety Training may be necessary to become an approved volunteer within the Florida prison system.
